Drain Cleaning Cost in Connecticut

Drain Wizard uses flat-rate pricing approved before any work begins — no hourly clock, no surprise add-ons buried in fine print. Standard small drain cleaning runs in the $500–$600 ballpark, and standard main sewer line cleaning runs in the $700–$800 ballpark. Additional work such as difficult access, pulling a toilet, hydro jetting, or camera and locating is priced separately and quoted up front. Here is exactly what each service covers.

Real Connecticut ranges

Flat-rate drain cleaning pricing

These are our standard flat-rate prices, approved in writing before we start. We distinguish between small branch drains (kitchen, tub, lavatory, laundry) and the main sewer line because they require different equipment and time on site. Anything beyond the standard scope — difficult access, pulling a fixture, jetting, or camera work — is quoted as a separate add-on so you always know what you are paying for.

Standard small drain cleaning

$500 – $600

A single branch line — kitchen sink, tub, lavatory, laundry standpipe, or similar fixture drain — cabled through an accessible cleanout or trap arm back to the main stack. Flat rate, no hourly clock, approved before we begin.

Standard main sewer line cleaning

$700 – $800

Full-size cable run on the main building drain from an exterior or basement cleanout, clearing roots, paper, or grease back to the city main or septic. Flat rate approved before we start, regardless of how long the run takes.

Difficult access (no cleanout)

Quoted separately

When there is no accessible cleanout, we may need to pull a toilet, go through a roof vent, or access the line another way. That labor is quoted as a separate add-on before we start, and we will often recommend installing a cleanout so future service costs less.

Hydro jetting (add-on)

Quoted separately

High-pressure water scours the pipe wall instead of punching a hole through the blockage. Recommended for recurring kitchen grease, heavy mineral scale, or root mats. Priced as a separate flat-rate add-on based on line length and severity.

Camera inspection & locating (add-on)

Quoted separately

Recorded video of the line with footage markers and a surface locate. Recommended when a line clogs repeatedly or before a repair decision. Always credited toward any repair we perform.

Why quotes differ

How advertised prices and flat-rate quotes compare

Promotional drain cleaning prices can be a great starting point, but they often come with limitations or exclusions depending on access, line size, blockage severity, whether a camera inspection is needed, and the overall scope of work. Additional charges may apply once those factors are assessed on site. We focus on giving you the full flat-rate price up front so you can compare quotes on the same terms.

What our price includes

  • Trained drain-cleaning professionals using equipment matched to your line
  • The right machine and cable size for the pipe diameter and blockage type
  • Clearing the full length of the line, not just punching a hole through the blockage
  • Camera verification available so you actually see the line is clear
  • Flat-rate price approved in writing before we start
  • Drop cloths, containment, and the work area left clean
  • Honest report if the line has a structural problem cabling will not fix
  • Workmanship guarantee on the clearing

What a cheap quote usually leaves out

  • Promotional prices that may not cover difficult access, larger lines, or severe blockages
  • Scope limited by time windows, cleanout availability, or stoppage type
  • Additional charges for camera inspection, root cutting, or extra cable runs
  • Final price that can change once the job is assessed on site
  • Unclear whether clearing covers the full line or just the immediate blockage
  • Camera work billed separately or not offered
  • Limited or no guarantee on how long the line stays clear

Cost drivers

What moves the price of a drain cleaning

Access point

An accessible cleanout is the cheapest way into a line. Pulling a toilet, going through a roof vent, or opening a wall adds labor to every job.

Line size and length

A 1.5-inch kitchen branch and a 4-inch main sewer need different machines, different cable, and different time on site.

What is actually in the pipe

Soft paper stoppages clear fast. Root mats, hardened grease, and mineral scale need jetting or repeated passes to fully restore the pipe diameter.

Whether it is recurring

A line clogging two or three times a year is telling you something. Camera work costs more today and saves a repeat visit every few months.

Emergency and after-hours

Overflowing sewage at 11pm is an emergency dispatch. We answer 24/7, and after-hours work carries a premium over a scheduled daytime visit.

Condition of the pipe

Old cast iron, offset joints, and bellied sections limit what cabling can achieve. We will tell you when clearing is a temporary fix rather than sell you the same visit repeatedly.

Six questions to ask before you book a drain cleaning

  1. 1Is the advertised price a flat rate for my drain, or a starting price that may change with access or blockage type?
  2. 2What size machine and cable will you use on this line?
  3. 3Will you clear the full length of the line back to the main?
  4. 4Do you offer a camera inspection, and is it credited toward a repair?
  5. 5What happens to the price if there is no accessible cleanout?
  6. 6Is the clearing guaranteed, and for how long?

Frequently asked

Drain cleaning cost questions, answered honestly.

How much does drain cleaning cost in Connecticut?+

Standard small drain cleaning — a kitchen, tub, lavatory, or laundry branch line — runs in the $500–$600 ballpark. A standard main sewer line cleaning through an accessible cleanout runs in the $700–$800 ballpark. Both are flat-rate prices approved before we start. Additional work such as difficult access, pulling a toilet, hydro jetting, or camera inspection and locating is quoted separately as a flat-rate add-on so there are no surprises on the invoice.

Why do some companies advertise $99 drain cleaning?+

Promotional prices like these can cover a straightforward clearing — typically an accessible cleanout, a short cable run, and a soft blockage within a set time window. They may not include difficult access, larger or longer lines, severe root or grease blockages, camera inspection, or additional cable runs, any of which can add to the cost on site. We quote the full flat-rate job before we start so the number does not move.

Is hydro jetting worth the extra cost over snaking?+

For a one-time paper clog, no — cabling is the right tool and the cheaper answer. For recurring kitchen grease, heavy mineral scale, or a root mat, yes. Cabling punches a hole through the blockage; jetting scours the pipe wall back to full diameter, so the line stays clear far longer.

Do I need a camera inspection?+

If a line clogs more than once a year, if you have mature trees near the sewer lateral, or if you are buying the house, yes. The camera tells you whether you have a maintenance problem or a broken pipe — the difference between a routine clearing and a repair decision. Camera inspection and locating is quoted as a separate flat-rate add-on and always credited toward any repair we perform.

Do you charge for an estimate?+

We charge a $125 service charge for the diagnostic visit and a written flat-rate estimate. That fee is waived when you hire us for the work, and you approve the full price before anything starts.

How much does after-hours emergency drain service cost?+

After-hours and weekend emergency dispatch carries a premium over a scheduled daytime appointment. We tell you that number on the phone before we roll a truck, so there is no surprise on the invoice.

Will drain chemicals save me money?+

Rarely. Caustic drain products sit on top of a blockage, damage older cast iron and rubber gaskets, and make the eventual mechanical clearing more hazardous for the technician. They cost more in pipe life than they save in service calls.
