Diagnosis first

What a sewer camera reveals — and why it matters

A recurring backup is a symptom. The camera tells us the cause. Every Drain Wizard sewer scope is a real diagnostic — recorded footage, on-ground locate, and depth reading — not a sales pitch. The evidence drives the recommendation.

Root intrusion

Tree and shrub roots find their way through pipe joints and cracks, growing into full curtains that catch waste and cause repeat backups. Camera locates every intrusion; jetting removes them at the source.

Grease & scale buildup

Kitchen lines and commercial drains slowly coat with grease, soap, and mineral scale until only a trickle passes. Cabling punches through; only jetting restores full diameter.

Cracked & offset joints

Settling, freeze-thaw cycles, and old cast iron produce cracked hubs and offset joints. On camera we locate the exact defect and depth so any repair is targeted.

Bellies & sags

A low spot in the line holds water and solids, causing chronic slow drains. Camera reveals the sag so we can plan a proper spot repair rather than repeated cleanings.

Collapsed pipe

Cast iron trench rot, terra-cotta shattering, and Orangeburg delamination all end the same way — a collapsed line and a sewage backup. Camera confirms it before excavation.

Foreign objects

Wipes, toys, tools, and construction debris create hard blockages. Camera identifies exactly what and where before we decide how to remove it.

Root removal

How we clear roots from sewer lines — for good.

Most "drain guys" cable through the middle of a root mass and call it done. Six months later, you're calling again. Drain Wizard does it right: camera in, cut with the correct tooling, hydro jet to full pipe diameter, and camera out to verify.

1. Scope & locate

Push the camera to identify every root intrusion, note depths, and mark the ground above so we know exactly what we're dealing with.

2. Cut the roots

The correct cable size and root-cutting head — or high-pressure jetter with a root-cutting nozzle — is matched to the pipe and the intrusion.

3. Hydro jet the walls

Cutting alone leaves debris and hair roots behind. Jetting flushes the line to bare pipe wall so nothing regrows overnight.

4. Verify on camera

A second camera pass records the finished line — full diameter, clear joints, smooth flow — so you know it's actually done.

FAQ

Sewer camera inspection questions

Have a specific situation? Call (203) 823-8992 — we'll tell you honestly whether a scope is the right next step.

How does a sewer camera inspection work?+

We push a self-leveling color camera through your line from an existing cleanout, roof vent, or a pulled toilet — whichever is least invasive. The video is displayed live on our monitor and recorded so you can see exactly what we see, and we mark the depth and location of any defect on the ground above.

Can a camera find where roots are getting into my pipe?+

Yes — that's one of the main reasons we scope a line. Roots enter at cracked joints and offsets, and the camera shows you the exact depth and location. After we cut and jet the roots out, we run the camera again to verify the pipe is clean end-to-end.

Should I have my sewer camera-inspected before buying a home?+

Absolutely. Sewer repairs are typically five-figure jobs and standard home inspections do not include the underground sewer line. A pre-purchase camera inspection is inexpensive insurance against inheriting a hidden problem.

What is PipePatch and when is it used?+

PipePatch is a Source 1 Environmental trenchless spot-repair system. A fiberglass sleeve coated with resin is installed inside the existing pipe over the damaged joint or crack, then cures in place to form a permanent, structural repair — no excavation required. It is ideal for isolated defects in an otherwise sound line.

How long does a sewer camera inspection take?+

Most residential inspections take 45–90 minutes including review of the footage with you. Long commercial runs and lines with heavy buildup may take longer, especially if we need to clean the line first so the camera can pass.
